HELEN MARGARET KIRKLAND KNOLL (1943-2025)

HELEN MARGARET KIRKLAND KNOLL (1943-2025)

Helen Margaret Kirkland Knoll, a longtime resident of Blanco and loving mother, passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Jan. 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, at the age of 81.

She was born on June 29, 1943, in San Francisco, California to Thomas and Edna Kirkland and is preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas Kirkland, and daughter Denise (Dena) Knoll.

Helen is survived by her son, James Troy Knoll, and daughter, Karen Knoll Marceno (Joseph); her three beloved grandchildren, Brian Knoll (Melissa), Danielle Thomas (Derek) and Andrew Coldwell (Andi); as well as four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Aubrey and Ryder Knoll and Matilda Thomas. She is also survived by her brother, William (Carolyn) Kirkland, and nephew James (Cynthia) Kirkland.

Helen was a staunch advocate for the rights of those with developmental disabilities and served for many years on the board of the Austin Association for Retarded Citizens. In her spare time, Helen attended as many of her grandchildren’s activities as she possibly could. Known by all as “Grandma,” she could frequently be spotted in the stands of Blanco and Boerne sporting events cheering on her grandchildren and their friends.

Helen was a founding and active member of the New Hope Lutheran Church in Blanco and served as their treasurer for many years. She loved spreading her faith and taught Sunday school at New Hope Lutheran Church until her health prevented her from continuing.

Private graveside services will be observed. A celebration of life will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. All who knew and loved Helen are welcome to come to share stories and a meal. Anyone wishing to, may bring a dessert to share.
