Joy Lynn Feuge

Joy Lynn Feuge, a cherished resident of Johnson City, Texas, departed this life peacefully on February 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on Feb. 4, 1927, in Camp Springs, Texas, to the devoted parents Fontain and Mamie Garner.

As the daughter of a Methodist preacher, Joy’s early life was woven into the fabric of various communities across Texas and Arkansas, each leaving a lasting imprint on her spirit and values. She furthered her education at McMurry University in Abilene after graduating high school, nurturing a lifelong passion for learning and music.

Joy’s journey took a significant turn when she married Edwin Sooter, Sr. Together, they embraced the nomadic lifestyle that came with his ministry, nurturing their three children along the way. Joy later married the late Lt. Col. Ren Anderson, before finding companionship with Arthur Feuge, Jr. in Johnson City, where she would warm the hearts of many with her kindness and vibrant presence.

An avid lover of music, Joy delighted in playing the piano, filling her home with melodies that resonated gently with the souls of those around her. Alongside her musical talent, she found joy in reading and conquering crossword puzzles, which kept her sharp and engaged throughout her life.

Joy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husbands Lt. Col. Ren Anderson and Arthur Feuge, Jr., as well as her brother David Garner and sisters Ruth Blair and Marie Leach. Her legacy will continue through her devoted family: her son Edwin C. Sooter, II and wife Elizabeth; daughter Sunny Humphries and husband Randy; son Herschal G. Sooter; step-son Danny Feuge and wife Sheryl; grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Liz, Rachel, Jennifer, Mary, Michael, Christopher, and Kathrine; along with twelve great-grandchildren, numerous great great grandchildren and a myriad of dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City. Joy’s funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Chapel, officiated by Pastor Michael D. Sooter.
