Bobby George (Hoss) Stuart

Bobby George (Hoss) Stuart passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, while residing at Arbor House Memory Care in Marble Falls, Texas, where Alzheimer’s took his life.

Bobby was born on December 6, 1942, in Sweetwater, Texas, and grew up in Roby and Honey Grove, Texas. He was the son of George and Thelma Stuart, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his sister, Louise Merritt, and his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sandy Stuart.

He graduated from Honey Grove High School in 1961, where he was a four-year letterman in football and track and a three-year letterman in basketball. Bobby played football at Paris Junior College for one year before transferring to Howard Payne University, where he continued playing football and graduated in 1965. He later earned his Master’s Degree from Sam Houston State University in 1974.

Bobby began his coaching career as an Assistant Football Coach at Brookshire Royal High School in 1965. After two years, he became Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. In 1975, he left Brookshire Royal to become Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Waco Robinson High School. In 1983, Bobby accepted the position of Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at Alief Hastings High School, where he coached for 20 years before retiring in 2003.

Coach Stuart’s dedication to high school athletics earned him numerous accolades throughout his career: State High School Regional Director (1989-1992) Houston Touchdown Club Finalist for Coach of the Year (1991) Greater Houston Football Association Director (19931995) Greater Houston Football Coaches Hall of Honor (1995) State 5A Runner- Up (1997) Houston Touchdown Club Coach of the Year (1997) Inducted into the Texas High School Hall of Honor (2004) Dedication of the Hastings High School Bobby Stuart Field House (2019) Coach Stuart was a member of the State High School Coaches Association for 55 years. Beyond his coaching career, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, and gardening. Upon retirement, Bobby and his wife Kay enjoyed traveling in their camper, with one of their favorite trips being a caravan journey to Alaska. They also took several cruises together, making cherished memories along the way.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Kay, of 33 years (married December 21, 1991); his sister, Betty Stephenson; and brother-inlaw, Paul Merritt. He is also survived by his children: Janice Harvey (Mike) and Jill Bartels (James); his bonus sons: Kevin Pierpoint (Aaren) and Brandon Pierpoint (Ashley); and his grandchildren: Amanda Harvey (fiancé Brandon Champion), Allison Harvey, Dylan Robinson, and Blake Robinson. Additionally, he leaves behind his bonus grandchildren: Mackenzie Turnbill (Brady), Hunter Pierpoint, Bailey Pierpoint, Payton Pierpoint, Lily and Riley Cunningham, and Skyler and Sydney Bartel. His great-grandson, Beau Champion, is expected to arrive in July. Bobby is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers include Lynn Etheridge, Leon Combs, LeRoy Crump, Lynn Parker, Nathan Barrier, and Mike Steelman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 1:00 PM at Lutie Watkins Methodist Church, located at 800 Wright Street in Llano, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or any charity of your choice.
