Elsie Schmidt Meurer, a beloved resident of Blanco, passed away on Feb. 12, 2025. Born on April 17, 1933, to Johnie J. Schmidt and Helena Marie (O’Bryant) Schmidt, Elsie cherished her roots in Blanco, where she was raised and graduated from Blanco High School in the Class of 1951.

In her early years, Elsie wed James Emil Meurer Sr., embarking on a journey of love and companionship. Demonstrating her dedication to her community, she pursued her education and training in nursing, acquiring her LVN license in Burnet. As a compassionate caregiver, she served at the Blanco Hospital, a place now recognized as the Old Blanco County Courthouse, where she made a positive impact on the lives of many.

Elsie took immense pride in her role as a mother, raising her three children with love and devotion. Family gatherings were a cherished aspect of her life, particularly as she spent time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her remarkable green thumb brought her tranquility and joy, as she cultivated beautiful gardens that mirrored her nurturing spirit.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Debra Meurer; son, Jimi Meurer and wife Julie, and son, David Meurer; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Emil Meurer, Sr.; her parents, Johnnie and Helena Schmidt; three siblings, Leroy Schmidt, Milton Schmidt, and Lilian Walker; as well as her daughters-in-law, Karen Perrett and Deanna Meurer.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be conducted as follows: Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 4-6 p.m. at Crofts–Crow Funeral Home, culminating with a Rosary at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Blanco.

Following the Mass, Elsie will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, James, in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
