Fourteen Mason County 4-H members participated in the District 7 Meal Identification and Evaluation Contest on April 16, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas. The Intermediate teams secured both the Champion and Reserve Champion titles, and the junior team received the Reserve Champion honor. Two members also competed for individual honors in the senior division.
Using meat industry standards, these 4-H’er spent three months developing critical thinking and decision- making skills in meat science. The competition consisted of placing classes of carcasses and retail cuts and defending those placings through questions and/or oral reasons as well as identifying retail cuts corresponding to species, primal cuts, and cooking methods.
Individual placings are as follows:
Junior Team
Reserve Champion Team - Olivia Hudson, fourth high-Harper Fowler, fifth high -Della Osbourn and eighth high Kaleb Potter.
Intermediate Team
Champion Team Jarrett Worrell-third high, Blythe Grote - fourth high, Roan Moore-seventh high and Ruby Osbourn
Reserve Champion Team - Alexis Moore-second high, Brynlee Halamicek fifth high, Jubilee Arrazola - eighth high and Keagan Potter, Senior Members: Phoenix Arrazola and Cooper Landre.
