The Blanco boys golf team is headed to the state tournament, while Sophia Young qualified as an individual for the state tournament as a member of the Blanco girls team.
Both golf teams competed at the Region 1 Golf Championships last week. The boys team played April 14-15 at Live Oak Golf Club in Abilene. The girls team played April 16-17.
Sophia Young shot 76 and 82 to place fourth in the individual standings and advance to state. The Blanco girls team placed ninth. Adelaide Smith shot 93 and 92, while Calla Nelson scored 107 and 116. Katie Sapp shot 125 and 110, and Quinn Maxey scored 122 and 114.
The Blanco boys team placed third and will advance to state. Noah Gallas shot 78 and 79 to lead the Panthers. Ryan LoValvo scored 84 and 77, while Estevan Vargas shot 85 and 78. Jaxson Millard scored 87 and 86, and Cambel Plahy shot 92 and 95.
Young will play in the state tournament April 28-28. The boys team will play in the state tournament May 5-6 at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.
