The Blanco baseball team shut out Florence 7-0 Friday, April 11 and lost to Comfort 8-7 Monday, April 14.
The Panthers are 11-10-1 overall and 5-2 in District 3A-5 standings. Ingram is 7-0 in district play, while Comfort is 4-3 in district.
Against Florence, Chris Martinez tossed seven shutout innings to pick up the win. He gave up just two hits and struck out 10.
Matthew Rodriguez was one-for-two with two RBI. Caden Spivey was one-forthree with one RBI. Diego Soto, Jacob Johnson, Andrew Binz, Henry Pfluger and Rex Wisdom all had hits.
Colby Murphree took the loss in relief of Isaiah Mancha against Comfort. Lane Bizzell also pitched for Blanco. Pfluger was twofor- three, scored two runs and had one RBI. Murphree was two-for-three at the plate, while Rodriguez was one-for-two with two RBI. Binz scored two runs.
The junior varsity beat Florence 17-3 Monday, April 7 with Spivey on the mound for three innings throwing 39 pitches with seven strike outs and one hit. Ayden Reedy finished the game with two innings pitched, two strike outs and three runs. Everyone for Blanco got at least one hit. The Panthers defeated Florence 4-1 Friday, April 11. Wyatt Allison, Andrew Martinez, Fletcher Hall and Madden Huskerson all pitched and combined for 10 strike outs, three walks, and one run in four innings. Caden Wood hit two-for-two with two runs scored.
Blanco hosted a round-robin and beat Johnson City 12-0 Saturday, April 12. Andrew Martinez started on the mound going three innings with three strike outs, no walks and not hits. Pfluger closed with one inning, one walk, one strike out and one run. Hunter Sierra, Brycen Reedy, Hunter Gonzales, Huskerson, Hall, Jack Curry, Martinez, Pfluger and Spivey all had hits. Blanco came from behind to beat Marion 7-6 in the second game Saturday. Spivey pitched and Allison closed. Blanco overcame five errors and seven walks to win in a walk-off after Huskerson’s base hit tied the game when the catcher made a bad throw to second trying to throw out Huskerson advancing to second. Huskerson scored to win the game. Huskerson went two-for-two with one walk and three RBI and two runs scored. Spivey and Pfluger each had two hits.
Blanco travels to Comfort on Friday. The Panthers host Ingram Tuesday, April 22 and finish the district schedule at Ingram on Friday, April 25.
