Bandera County Sheriff Dispels ICE Rumors Surrounding School Visit

Bandera County Sheriff Josh Teitge has issued a public clarification following online rumors that suggested Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had removed students from a Bandera Independent School District (BISD) campus earlier this week.

In an official statement, Sheriff Teitge confirmed that no students were detained or removed by federal authorities. The confusion stemmed from a routine visit conducted by U.S. Border Patrol agents, who were on campus to participate in a walkthrough — an activity coordinated with and supported by school administration.

“This was not an enforcement action. Border Patrol agents were simply familiarizing themselves with the school’s layout and procedures in the event of a future emergency,” said Sheriff Teitge. “There was absolutely no involvement from ICE, and no student was approached or questioned.”

The walkthrough was described as a proactive safety measure, part of ongoing efforts between local law enforcement and federal partners to ensure preparedness for emergency scenarios, including potential security threats.

Bandera ISD officials echoed the sheriff’s statements, emphasizing that the visit had been scheduled in advance and did not disrupt the school day. “We appreciate the collaboration with law enforcement to support the safety of our students and staff,” said a BISD spokesperson.

The sheriff’s office released the clarification after reports began circulating on social media, prompting concerns among families and community members about possible immigration enforcement on school grounds.

“I want to be very clear — our priority is the safety and trust of our community,” Sheriff Teitge added. “Misinformation can cause unnecessary panic, and we are committed to transparency and truth in all public matters.”

The sheriff’s office encourages residents to contact their department directly with questions or concerns rather than relying on unofficial sources.
