Less than one year after responsibility for the Horseshoe Bay Memorial Association was transferred from the HSB POA to a new board, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a second mausoleum located in the Eileen Hurd Nature Reserve not far from the sold-out original mausoleum. The occasion coincided with Eileen Hurd’s birthday on April 2.
Steve Jordan, former HSB mayor and president of the HSB Memorial Association, kept the ceremony concise. He offered a prayer of thanksgiving, noting the contributions of the Hurds, the new board, the City of HSB and the HSB Resort. Both the city and the Resort donated land to the Memorial Association, creating a total of 10 acres for future development.
Hurd loves to reminisce about how she and husband Wayne explored this piece of property years ago when so much of what is today HSB was still a grand plan and dream. This particular property was one of their favorite locations to hike and explore what is today the Slick Rock Creek Trail below the original Mausoleum.
At the recent association’s annual meeting, Ron Mitchell spoke about the need for a masterplan for additional mausoleum sites. He also mentioned the future need for water and electricity infrastructure to accomBible modate a future Memorial Chapel and bathroom facilities on the property. There is an apparent need for additional parking as well.
Currently, presales of niches and crypts for the new Mausoleum II are brisk. Since January of this year, General Manager Dede Hodge reports 67 niches and 31 crypts have already been sold, taking advantage of a preconstruction discount price that continues until July 1. After that date there will be a price increase. Construction is scheduled to begin this month (April 2025) with an anticipated completion date in October of this year.
Appointments for a sales meeting with Hodge can be made at hsbmemorialassociation. org. Appointments are made on a first come, first served basis.
After symbolically turning some dirt with golden shovels provided by the Resort, Jordan offered ice cream sandwiches to all those who came out for the occasion in honor of Eileen Hurd’s birthday. It was a fitting conclusion to a joyous celebration.
