Blanco High School is on the search for a new football coach and athletic director.

Jamie Dixon resigned last week and started Monday as the football coach and athletic director at Edna.

Blanco ISD Superintendent Clay Rosenbaum hopes to have a new football coach and AD in place by the start of May.

“We will be accepting applications through the middle of (this) week and hope to start the first round of interviews the following week,” he said. “We would like to have someone in place on May 1, if possible.”

Attributes Rosenbaum is looking for in a new coach and AD include “strong communication skills, supports all programs, active in the community, a proven record of success, disciplinarian, advocate for all student athletes, plus many other skills.”

Dixon was hired at Blanco in the spring of 2023. He led the Panthers to an 18-7 record over the past two seasons as football coach. Blanco went 11-3 in 2023 and advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs, where the season ended against Edna. The Panthers lost to Van Vleck in the first round of the 2024 football playoffs.

“I’m very thankful for our time at Blanco,” Dixon said. “The kids here are a great group of hard working kids and they did everything we asked of them and it turned into two district championships and playing football in December. Overall, as the athletic director, I feel we did a great job improving all the facilities and making sure all the programs were taken care of. Mr. Rosenbaum is one of the best superintendents in the business and it was a hard thing for me to tell him I was leaving.”

Dixon said one of the “biggest reasons” he chose to leave Blanco was to move closer to family.

“My parents’ health has declined and this puts us an hour away from them and I can help my brother out with my parents a lot easier by being closer to them,” he said. “My wife has a sister that lives in Edna and it gets her closer to family as well.”
