Chilly Weekend Ahead: Cold Front Sweeps Through Texas Hill Country

Chilly Weekend Ahead: Cold Front Sweeps Through Texas Hill Country

Residents of the Texas Hill Country are in for a surprise this weekend as an unseasonably strong cold front pushes into the region, bringing brisk winds, cloudy skies, and significantly cooler temperatures. The National Weather Service is forecasting a sharp drop in temperatures across Central Texas starting Saturday, with the chill lingering into early next week.

In Llano, the weekend kicks off with highs only reaching the upper 50s. Saturday will be cool and partly sunny, with a high of 58°F and a low around 40°F. Sunday follows with similar conditions—sun mixing with clouds and a low dipping to a brisk 37°F.

In Fredericksburg, folks should brace for even chillier nights. Saturday brings breezy conditions and a high of just 59°F, while Sunday remains windy and cool with a high of 56°F and a cold low near 35°F.

Marble Falls will see cloudy skies early Saturday, giving way to some sunshine. The high will reach near 60°F, with overnight lows in the low 40s. Sunday will be mostly sunny and cool, with a low around 38°F.

Areas of North and West Texas are also preparing for impactful weather events.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the cold front is expected to bring severe storms and flooding risks. Residents should be prepared for heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding. Cities like Lubbock and Midland will experience a significant temperature drop and storms starting this weekend. The Texas Panhandle, including Amarillo, may see freezing nights and snowfall over the weekend.

After the weekend chill, a slow warming trend is expected through the upcoming week, promising near perfect spring weather. Monday will remain cool, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and clear skies across the Hill Country. Overnight lows will hover near 40°F. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring more sunshine and gradual warming, with highs reaching the upper 60s to low 70s. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to return to near-normal levels for April, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. Friday looks mild and dry, with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s—just in time for the weekend.

This front follows a record-warm March in much of South and Central Texas, making the weekend’s cold snap feel even more dramatic. Despite earlier predictions of a warmer-than-average April, this Arctic air mass will briefly rewrite that outlook—especially for the Hill Country.

Forecasters advise locals to prepare for the sudden change, especially those with outdoor plans or sensitive vegetation. Gusty winds will add an extra chill to the air, and temperatures could feel even colder than the forecasted lows during the nighttime hours.

Bundle up and enjoy the brief taste of late winter—warmer days are just around the corner.
