JCVFD members met on March 26th for their monthly Business Meeting. Items for discussion included 2025 Fish Fry Planning and adoption of Bylaws Amendment.

Rhonda Stell presented a $1,500 check from the Johnson City Garden Club Crafters from the sale of Christmas ornaments at the Blanco County Courthouse. Stell said, “We made $21,000 in ornament sales and we donate to the local emergency services groups.” JCVFD President Ray Bible thanked Stell on behalf of the JCVFD.

Fish Fry Discussion Bible reminded everyone that Fire Corps member Ellen Felps needs volunteer members to sell tickets.

“Tickets are 5 for $5.00. Next month we will hold Fish Fry meetings once a week. Rhonda Stell will take care of ordering the posters, and the Scott Crofts Band will perform at the Fish Fry.”

“The gun list is ready, and we have 25 guns. Two will be for a card drawing, 5 for live auction, and 18 for raffle. Date of the Fish Fry is May 10th and will be held in the new Exhibit Hall.”

The minutes of previous meetings were approved by Vice President Ryan Keith and Chris Welch. Financials which included a $24K reimbursement from the ESD1 were approved by motion from Welch and Corwin Horn.

Bible shared the February Run Report of 32 calls and response time of 7.75 minutes. Bible said that MVA’s were the highest volume of calls in February but wildland may be the highest volume of calls for March.

Keith and Bible gave equipment updates. “Rescue 2 will be serviced, and if this does not take care of everything it will go to a transmission shop.” There were also updates on truck maintenance for Brush 3, 4, 7, and 9.

“Last month we discussed a Bylaws change pertaining to age and we decided to continue having 18-year-olds as part of the JCVFD but anyone under age 21 will remain on probation for one year. During probation they are unable to operate/drive a department truck,” Bible said.

Motion for approval of the Bylaws change was made by Chief Whitney Liesmann and Welch and carried.

Horn reminded everyone to be proactive about truck cleanliness. “Let’s keep our trucks as clean as possible.”

Keith said, “There are county paid counselors available for emergency response providers if needed. We had a major fatality a few weeks ago. If any of you need help don’t be afraid to use them because that’s what they are there for. The phone number is: 512-323-6994.”

The Mutual Aid Agreement with Stonewall and Willow City VFD has expired.
