Eighteen Mason County 4-H’ers traveled to Rowena for the District 7 Fashion Show and Duds to Dazzle competition on March 25, 2025. This competition is part of the Fashion and Interior Design project area.

Duds to Dazzle is comprised of four team members who are given an item and instructed to construct a new product in one of three categories: wearable, non-wearable, or acjewelry. The contestants have no foreknowledge of the base item or the category in which they must create the new piece. Each team has 60 minutes to construct an item, prepare a presentation, and clean up their work area. They are judged on their design process, safety precautions, teamwork, and use of materials in addition to the quality and appearance of the final product and the effectiveness of the sales pitch for the product.

The Duds to Dazzle teams were given either a bandana or t-shirt and instructed to design and create a new item.

1st Place Team – Junior Non-Wearable Category: (L-R): Hadley Eckert, Elizabeth Schmidt, Jordyn Beam and Livy Hudson.
2nd Place Team – Junior Wearable Category. (L-R): Harper Holbrook, Navey Martin, Finley Eppler, Emma Denning

5th Place Team – Junior Accessory Category. (L-R): Paisley Couvillion, Harper Payne, Harper Fowler and Della Osbourn.

In the Fashion Show competition, each contestant must construct or purchase an outfit within the past year to showcase. The 4-H’ers must then model that garment and provide a 5-minute presentation for the judges describing the project activities, outfit selection criteria, and the construction or purchasing details.
