Blanco girls, boys win district golf championships

The Blanco girls and boys golf teams each won their respective district championships last week.

Round one was played Tuesday, March 25 at Llano and round two was held Wednesday, March 26 at Comfort.

The Blanco girls shot a two-day total of 767. Leading the team was Sophia Young, the individual district champion, with a 68 on day one and a 75 on day two for a two day total of 143. Adelaide Smith shot 99 and 85, while Calla Nelson scored 116 and 107. Quinn Maxey shot 113 and 107, Leah Staas scored 114 and 111, Katie Sapp shot 111 and 109 and Kailey McTeer shot 120 and 120.

Blanco won the district title by a wide margin. The girls team from Ingram finished in second place with an 837, which was 70 strokes behind the Lady Panthers. The second place individual was from Ingram and she shot 150. A medalist from Llano and one from Brady also qualified for regional.

The Blanco boys team shot a two day total of 626 to claim the team championship. Jaxson Mallard and Ryan Lovalvo led Blanco by each shooting a 153 two day total. Noah Gallas scored 158, while Estevan Vargas shot 163. Cambel Plahy shot 81 on day two.

The second place team was Llano with a 640. The Jackets finished 14 strokes behind Blanco. Brady and Ingram have one medalist advancing to regional. The Brady player is the district champion with a 148 two day total.

Blanco’s teams will compete at the Region 1 Championships April-17. The boys play Monday and Tuesday of that week at Diamondback National Golf Club and the girls play Wednesday and Thursday of that week at Shady Oakes Golf Course. Both golf courses are in the Abilene area.
