The Llano High School softball team lost to Blanco 20-9 March 24 for the Lady Jackets' first loss in District 5-3A play.

The Lady Panthers led 2-1 after the first inning but scored seven runs in the second for a 9-1 advantage.

The Lady Jackets (2-1) trimmed the deficit to 9-1 thanks to scoring four runs in the third inning. Blanco responded with four runs in the fourth and Llano answered with three runs to make the score 13-8 headed into the fifth inning.

But the Lady Panthers scored another seven runs and allowed the Lady Jackets only one to secure the victory. Llano had 10 errors in the contest.

Head coach Tim Hulon noted that was the difference in the game.

"They're pretty good," he said of Blanco. "You give extra plate appearances, and things will catch up to you. They did what they're supposed to. We booted it around a little bit. We had a couple of errors, a couple of walks."

Offensively, Jayme Duroy, Lyndi Landers and Karli Wyatt each had two RBI, while Emilie Clopton, Savannah Gibson and Emmaryee Roberson each had one.

In all, Llano had 10 hits and Blanco had 11. Gibson and Duroy each had three hits, while Clopton had two and Landers and Morgan Williamson had one apiece.

"Savannah broke out tonight," the coach said. "Jayme … is swinging the bat well. She hits the ball hard. She drove the ball well tonight."

While the Lady Jackets were playing catch-up for most of the game, Hulon noted his players gave it their all.

"I thought our girls battled," he said. "We still put up runs and left some on base. I think most of our hits came from the same people. I like our chances. We know how to get hits. It's not like we're not doing the job at the plate. Our girls battled; they didn't lay down."

Llano travels to Blanco Friday, March 28, and welcomes Florence Monday, March 31. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.
