The Blanco softball team added two wins to its record last week.
The Lady Panthers wrapped up their pre-district schedule with a high-scoring 18-14 win over the Navarro Panthers Tuesday, March 11. They began District 5-3A play with a 14-5 victory over the Ingram Lady Warriors Friday, March 14. Blanco is 14-2 overall and 1-0 in district games.
Morgan Clark pitched struck out two and pitched seven innings in the win over Navarro. She gave up 13 hits and five earned runs.
Madison Hunter had six plate appearances and got on base all six times on a single and five walks. Hunter had one RBI, five runs scored and one stolen base. Candice Lopez went fourfor- six with two singles, one double, one triple, 10 RBI and two stolen bases. Kynlee Hernandez hit two-forfour with a single, a double, two RBI and one stolen base. Mariah Newsome hit a single with two RBI and two runs scored. Avery Flack and Kinley Boyd each hit a single. Kaylee Romero scored four runs and Maddy Lopez scored two runs.
In the game against Ingram, the Lady Warriors struck first by scoring one run in the first inning. The Lady Panthers fired back with two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Blanco added three runs in the third inning and Ingram scored two in the fourth. Blanco led 5-3 at the end of the fourth. The Lady Panthers exploded at the plate in the fifth inning by scoring four runs. They added five runs in the sixth for a 14-3 lead. Ingram added two runs in the seventh inning.
Clark picked up the win in the circle for Blanco. She struck out three, gave up nine hits and allowed five earned runs.. Celeste Ledesma was three-for-five at the plate with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Boyd hit her first home run of her high school career and added a double for five RBI and two runs scored. Candice Lopez hit two-for-four with two singles, two runs scored and one stolen base. Hunter hit two singles and had three runs scored and two stolen bases. Hernandez hit two doubles and scored two runs. Maddy Lopez had a double and two RBI. Romero hit two singles and scored two runs. Landry Meyer hit a single and a sacrifice bunt. Newsome hit a single and scored two runs.
Blanco played Ingram in the second meeting of the two teams in the district schedule after press time Tuesday. The District 5-3A softball and baseball teams are playing back-to-back games against each district opponent this season. The Lady Panthers travel to Monday on March 24 and then host Llano on March 28. The junior varsity games start at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity games at 7 p.m.
