Each of Blanco County’s three municipalities saw their respective sales tax disbursement rise in March, the Texas Comptroller’s Office announced last week.
Johnson City saw its sales tax revenue increase 12.09 percent in March 2025 over the same month last year. The city brought in $54,267.40 in sales tax revenue this month, up from the $48,412.33 it received in March 2024.
The year-to-date sales tax revenue for Johnson City is up 5.57 percent over the first three months of 2025 when compared to the same three months last year. They city has taken in $209,782.40 in sales tax revenue January through March in 2025, up from $198,697.59 in sales tax revenue received during the first three months of last year.
Round Mountain’s sales tax revenue for March increased 1.81 percent over its total from the same month a year ago. The city took in $3,007.42 this month, up from $2,953.86 it received in March 2024.
The year-to-date sales tax revenue for Round Mountain is up 16.12 percent during the first three months of 2025 when compared to the same time period in 2024. The city received $12,596.56 in sales tax revenue from January through March 2025, up from $10,847.27 in the first three months of 2024.
Sales tax revenue in Blanco increased 6.25 percent in March 2025 over the same month a year ago. The city took in $75,825.45 in sales tax revenue this month, up from $71,363.29 in March 2024.
Blanco’s year-to-date sales tax revenue from January through March 2025 is up 10.91 percent over the first three months of 2024. The city received $297,982.65 in sales tax revenue this year, up from $268,665.95 over the same three-month period last year.
The state disbursed $1.1 billion in sales tax revenue this month, up 10.2 percent from March 2024, to send to cities, transit systems, counties and special purpose districts. These numbers are based on sales made in January by businesses which report monthly. After businesses send sales tax revenue to the comptroller’s office, they are distributed to entities the first week of the next month.
The state sales tax rate is 6.25 percent. A local sales tax of up to 2 percent may be added to that number. Blanco and Johnson City each have a 1.5 percent local sales tax rate, while it is 1 percent for Round Mountain.
The state took in $685.2 million in sales tax revenue for cities in March, $223.5 million for transit systems, $106.8 million for special purpose districts and $65.5 million for counties. Sales tax revenue is up 15 percent for special purpose districts this month over March 2024, while it’s up 10.6 percent for transit systems, 10.1 percent for cities and 2.8 percent for counties.
Statewide year-to-date sales tax revenue statewide is up 6.7 percent over the first three months of 2025 compared to the same three-month period a year ago. It’s up 13.2 percent for special purpose districts, 6.3 percent for counties, 6.2 percent for cities and 5.5 percent for transit systems.
