Despite gusty winds sweeping across the Highland Lakes region, aviation enthusiasts and thrill-seekers turned out in full force for the 33rd Bluebonnet Air Show. Hosted by the Highland Lakes Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), the much-anticipated event drew an impressive crowd of 3,610 attendees on March 15th.

As the gates opened at 9:00 AM, spectators of all ages streamed into the airfield, eager for a day filled with aerial acrobatics, historic warbirds, and dazzling aviation displays. Vendors lined the walkways, offering everything from aviation memorabilia to local cuisine, while families set up their lawn chairs and picnic blankets, ready for the spectacle to begin.

The real excitement kicked off at 1:00 PM, when the sky transformed into a stage for the daring pilots. Despite the challenging winds, the performers delivered breathtaking aerial maneuvers, leaving the audience in awe. Vintage warbirds took to the air, their engines roaring as they performed precision formations and aerobatic stunts reminiscent of aviation’s golden age. The crowd cheered as aircraft looped, rolled, and raced across the sky, showcasing both the skill of the pilots and the enduring beauty of these historic planes.

One of the standout moments of the day was the CAF's own fleet of meticulously restored aircraft, which included WWII-era planes that paid tribute to the brave pilots of the past. Attendees had the rare opportunity to see these warbirds up close, chat with pilots and historians, and even witness ground demonstrations of the aircraft in action.

Though the winds added an extra challenge, they couldn’t dampen the spirit of the event. The resilience of the performers and the enthusiasm of the crowd made this year’s show one to remember. As the sun set over the airfield, families and aviation lovers departed with memories of a thrilling day, already looking forward to next year’s Bluebonnet Air Show.

For many, the event wasn’t just about watching planes—it was about honoring history, celebrating aviation, and sharing a passion for the skies.
