The Blanco baseball team opened its season Feb. 17 with a 6-1 victory against in-county rival Johnson City.
The Eagles led 1-0 in the sixth inning, but the Panthers were the recipients of nine walks in the game and one hit to score the six runs.
Chris Martinez tossed six innings to earn the win. He gave up six hits and struck out three. Matthew Rodriguez pitched the seventh inning. Senior Wyatt Martinez got the only hit for the Panthers.
The Blanco junior varsity team won 21-6 against Johnson City. The Panthers totaled 18 hits and did not strike out in the game. The team also had eight stolen bases.
Caden Spivey pitched three innings for the win and gave up five hits and six runs (two earned) and struck out six. Spivey went two-for-three at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored. Wyatt Allison pitched two innings for the save. Henry Pfluger, Madden Huskerson, Hunter Gonzales, Hunter Sierra, Brycen Reedy, Andrew Martinez and Fletcher Hall each had two hits.
The varsity tournament at Marion last week was canceled due to inclement weather. The Panthers will travel to Ingram for tournament play Thursday through Saturday. Blanco hosts its annual tournament March 6-8.
