The Llano High School softball team went 3-3 at the Kerrville Tivy Tournament February 13-15.

The Lady Jackets defeated San Antonio Edison 17-6, Junction 13-4 and Harper 10-3 and lost to El Paso Chapin 15-0, Natalia 5-4 and Tivy 8-4.

Head coach Tim Hulon said he enjoyed seeing the plate production.

'We swung the balls well,' he said. 'I think we're seeing the ball well. The philosophy I brought is being aggressive at the plate. Get that on your side and give yourself a chance.'

Llano scored eight runs at the top of the first inning against Edison and nine in the second. The Lady Jackets took advantage of six Golden Bears errors.

The Lady Jackets had 13 hits against Junction and 10 hits against Harper.

The coach was pleased with seniors Jayme Duroy, Lyndi Landers and Morgan Williamson and junior Emilie Clopton.

'Jayme is swinging the bat well,' he said. 'Lyndi is swinging the ball well. Morgan Williamson and Emilie Clopton are great at the plate.'

Natalia took a 4-0 lead only to have Llano answer in the bottom half of the first inning and then tied it in the bottom half of the second inning. The Lady Mustangs scored a run in the third inning for the victory.

Tivy scored a run in the first and two in the second before the Lady Jackets responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the second inning. Chapin generated its runs off 12 hits.

The losses to Tivy and Natalia didn't discourage Hulon because of how the Lady Jackets battled at the plate.

'We're going to swing the bats and put up runs,' he said. 'Our consistency gave us a chance. Tivy is one of the better teams we'll play all year. We took care of business at the plate. It kept momentum, it helped us go. I know we'll be able to score runs.'

Hulon said the veterans are leading in a positive way with their actions.

'I think it's going to be very important,' he said. 'They're going to teach the others how to play and give that confidence. I'm going to lean on them. As they go, we'll go. I'm excited about how this team is coming together. We're headed in the right direction.'

Head coach Tim Hulon was happy with the number of runs his players produced over the weekend including from Emilie Clopton (standing next to the coach) Jayme Duroy, Morgan Williamson and Andrea Aviles.
Senior Lyndi Landers' experience and aggressiveness at the plate and on the bases keeps opponents guessing and helps her teammates bring her home.
