The Llano High School powerlifting teams began the 2025 season with impressive performances at the Burnet Invitational Jan. 16.
The Lady Jackets were the runners-up with 31 points thanks to the performances of five lifters.
'They did very well,' head coach Richard Kattner said.
Leading the way was Lizbeth Depaz, who won the 165-pound weight class with a squat of 350 pounds, a bench press of 175 pounds, and a deadlift of 315 pounds for a total of 840 pounds.
In her first meet of the season, she automatically qualified for the regional meet.
'We set up Lizbeth to qualify,' Kattner said.
Rubi Monroy also earned gold by winning the 105-pound weight class with a squat of 250 pounds, a bench press of 150 pounds, and a deadlift of 255 pounds for a total of 655 pounds. Kattner saw Monroy in a physical education class and invited her to join the team.
She's been doing well, he added.
'She's 20 pounds from automatically qualifying for regionals,' he said. 'I didn't realize Rubi is as strong as she is. We'll bump her up at her next meet.'
Camrie Henderson took gold in the 242-pound weight class by recording a 305-pound squat, a 180-pound bench press, and a 280-pound deadlift for a total of 765 pounds.
'Camrie hit (personal records) in everything,' the coach said. 'She was so fired up. 'She did well, she hit all her lifts,' he said. 'She's shy. You let them find themselves in the first meet.'
Llano will compete at the Lampasas Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
