The Blanco boys basketball team played eight games from Dec. 17 to Jan. 3 and posted a 4-4 record. The Panthers are 11-6 on the season.
The Panthers lost to the Fredericksburg Billies, 5432, on Dec. 17. Colby Murphree was the high-point scorer with 10 points. Gavin Luker scored six and Justin Karnes sank five points. Cody Waltrip was the leading rebounder with five. Levi Golla and Karnes each had two assists. Trey Atchley, Robbie Jimenez, Waltrip and Karnes each made two steals.
Blanco defeated the Luling Eagles 47-34 on Dec. 19. Luker led the team with 18 points. Karnes scored 17 points, while Murphree added five points. Waltrip led the team with eight rebounds. Murphree and Jimenez each had three assists. Luker made three steals. Foster Capshaw and Atchley each made one block.
In the Randolph tournament, the Panthers beat the Natalia Mustangs 67-31 on Dec. 27. Karnes paced the team with 21 points. Jimenez scored 10 and Atchley sank nine points. Waltrip grabbed nine rebounds. Golla and Waltrip each had five assists. Waltrip and Murphree each made three steals. Karnes blocked one shot.
Blanco played the host team, the Randolph Ro-Hawks, Dec. 27 and lost 4731. Karnes led the team with 17 points. Murphree scored 10 points, while Diego Soto and Atchley each sank two points. Atchley, Waltrip and Murphree each made five rebounds. Atchley, Jimenez, Luker, Karnes and Waltrip each had one assist. Luker and Karnes each made two steals. Waltrip blocked two shots.
On the second day of the tournament, Dec. 28, Blanco lost to the Bandera Bulldogs 38-33. Luker was the highpoint scorer with 18 points. Capshaw and Karnes each scored five and Jimenez, Waltrip and Murphree each added two points. Waltrip led with nine rebounds. Karnes made three assists. Golla snagged three steals.
In their last game of the tournament, Dec. 28, the Panthers defeated Lutheran 38-22. Karnes scored 15 points. Atchley and Murphree each sank six points. Capshaw scored five. Waltrip led with nine rebounds. Luker made five assists. Golla had six steals.
Blanco posted a 72-30 win against San Antonio Memorial Dec. 30. Atchley was the high-point scorer with 15. Luker score 14 points and Karnes added 12. Waltrip made eight rebounds. Karnes had five assists. Capshaw made four steals. Karnes blocked two shots.
The Panthers lost 55-30 to the Marion Bulldogs on Jan. 3. Luker led the team with 10 points. Atchley scored nine and Jimenez sank four points. Jimenez had five rebounds. Luker made five assists and three steals. Capshaw blocked one shot.
Blanco played San Marcos Home School after press time Tuesday. They play at district foe Brady on Friday.
