Trial of New Jersey Man on Murder Charge in Blanco County Rescheduled Again

  • Source: Blanco County News

A New Jersey man who has been charged with capital murder in Blanco County is set to have his case decided by a jury this spring, rather than later this month.

“The Mark Skladany trial has been continued (and) it is reset to April 28, at 8:30 a.m.,” according to the 424th Judicial District Court coordinator’s office, in an email on Tuesday.

The 77-year-old homicide victim, John Wayne Jones, died on the way to the hospital on Dec. 12, 2022. According to police, Skladany was attempting to burglarize Jones’s home when the homicide occurred. Jones was allegedly pistol-whipped and run over during the incident that began in the 6700 block of Middle Creek Road, according to an arrest affidavit.

Skladany, 33, was arrested the next day and remained in law enforcement custody this week on a charge of capital murder. His trial has been rescheduled several times and most recently was set for Jan. 27.

Jones was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, according to his obituary.

The News will continue to follow this case.
