Cub Scout Packs from the District Capital Area including Llano, Fredericksburg, Marble Falls, Mason and Blanco gathered at Robinson Park on Saturday, August 10th for the annual Raingutter Regatta. This was the Llano Cub Scout’s first time hosting the yearly event, which is the culmination of the summer program.

The Regatta was announced in June and each Pack in the district began building their boats during meetings. The boats are made from an official Cub Scout kit, and the key to success is practicing blowing the sails through a straw. There were multiple heats, and the Scouts who maneuvered their boats down the water-filled track the fastest went on to race for a gold or silver medal.

Junior High Scouts were on hand to assist Cub Master Matt Parisher and Assistant Cub Masters Laura Bibb and Roxanne Parisher with the event, which included other team building activities like snap rockets and magnet fishing. Cub Scouts can earn “belt loops” by completing these activities and participating in the Regatta.

“We are really excited for this year’s program, we have a lot of fun activities planned,” said Mrs. Parisher, who is a second year Cub Scout leader. Saturday’s event, attended by about 25 Cub Scouts and their families, “went very well, better than expected,” she added.

Llano Cub Scouts Pack 301 Fall 2024 registration is currently open through August 23rd, with a kick-off event scheduled for August 26th. Activities like overnight camping, day trips, hikes, and the beloved Pinewood Derby will take place throughout the year.

“(The Cub Scouts) are very family oriented,” said Bibb, noting that parents and younger siblings are heavily involved in meetings and activities. “We learn leadership skills, character development and accountability, which can be especially valuable to the kids who aren’t necessarily into sports.”
